Thom Yorke-“Give up the Ghost”
Thom Yorke and Radiohead bandmates have been very busy lately. Apparently Radiohead may or may not have finished wrapping up recording their follow up to In Rainbows, according to stereogum, and Thom Yorke just named his live band and added some U.S. tour dates (DeadAirSpace).
Thom Yorke recently played a benefit for Tony Juniper, who is hoping to become one of the first green members of the Parliament in the UK (DeadAirSpace). Fans at the gig recorded some songs, and Yorke debuted three new ones. Of those three was “Give up the Ghost”, and user Maggiebear74 recorded it with amazing quality. The track uses live loops recorded by Yorke, and an acoustic guitar. Yorke’s falsetto loops in the background singing, “Don’t call me” (or something of that sort). After the first verse Yorke places another Harmony on the loop. The song builds momentum with each loop Yorke places on it, creating a more interesting atmosphere with each loop.
I believe it is not known weather it is a Yorke solo song or a new Radiohead song. But apparently the song was to be debuted at Thom Yorke’s solo gig at the Latitude Festival on July 19th, 2009, according to citizen insane, indicating that it is a Yorke song. Whether or not it is a Yorke or Radiohead song, it is a good indicator that Radiohead and Yorke are still on top of their game.
Conan
I remember watching Late Night with Conan O’brian with my brother Andy, hearing about the “Horny Manatee” character. I remembered this because earlier today I was searching for how Jay Leno did on his first night back. Somehow I remembered the Horny Manatee, and remembered Conan made a website for it. NBC had bought the web address for the Horny Manatee because of regulations set up by the Federal Communications Commisions for a total of $154 after the taping of Conan’s show on 12/4/06 (New York Times). I typed the address—www.hornymanatee.com— into the address bar of safari, and it brought me to NBC’s website. I don’t know if the site shut down when Conan moved to the Tonight Show, or if it shut down when he left. I don’t even know who else has wrote about this. Either way, a sad reminder that Conan left.
